A year in the room with men

Male suicide remains the biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK. Behind that number is a quieter epidemic: men who feel they have nowhere to go before crisis arrives. MENd Together exists to be that earlier room — community, connection, and structured pathways men can walk into without being pathologised.

Three always-on weekly services launched: the Online Men's Community Drop-In, Coffee & Connection, and Recovery Hub Live. The Foundation Series matured. The Online Peer Support Group for male survivors of childhood sexual abuse opened its doors. The Recovery Hub digital platform began rolling out membership tiers — free entry, paid depth, sliding access.

Men in their 20s navigating fatherhood. Men in their 50s and 60s naming childhood abuse for the first time. Men recently separated. Men in recovery. Men who arrived not knowing what they needed and stayed because someone made room. We reach men who would not walk into a clinic — that is the whole point.

Men told us they felt heard for the first time in years. Some moved into peer support groups; some into coaching; some simply kept coming back to the Wednesday drop-in. Outcomes we track: continued attendance, reduced isolation scores, and the harder-to-measure: men who said, 'I would not be here without this room.'

Donation-based access works — most men give what they can, and the few who can't are kept in the room. Volunteer-led models scale at the speed of trust, not marketing. And no funnel beats a man telling another man, 'You should come on Wednesday.'

We turned away nobody on cost, but we did keep some men waiting for the right group. We are not a crisis service and never will be. We are small, deliberate, and growing at the speed safeguarding allows. Overpromising would harm the men who depend on us.
