Six-week pathway · Recovery Hub
Even Keel
The skill of returning, again and again, to yourself — taught slowly, in the language of the body.
Why this exists
Regulation is a practice, not a personality trait.
Most men were never taught what their nervous system actually does — only that they were supposed to "manage it." Even Keel starts from a different place. Your reactions make sense. Your bracing, leaving, snapping, going numb — all of it is the body doing exactly what it learned to do to keep you safe.
This pathway is about learning to feel that earlier, name it more clearly, and come back to yourself with more skill and less shame. Not a quick fix. Not a personality transplant. A practice you can carry.
The arc
Six weeks, gently sequenced
Each week opens with a short guided piece, a body-led practice, and a small invitation to carry into the days that follow. Nothing is timed. Nothing is graded.
Week 1
Noticing
Learning to feel the early signal — the tightening, the bracing, the leaving — before it becomes a flood.
Week 2
Naming
Putting language on what the body is doing. Activation, shutdown, freeze, fawn — without judgement, without fixing.
Week 3
Breath as anchor
Two or three simple breath patterns that meet the nervous system where it actually is, not where you wish it was.
Week 4
Body as ground
Feet, hands, weight, contact. Coming back through the body instead of trying to think your way calm.
Week 5
Returning
What to do in the minute after you've been knocked off. Repair, re-orient, come back to yourself without shame.
Week 6
Carrying it forward
Building a small, sustainable regulation practice that lives inside your real week — not a perfect routine that collapses by Thursday.
Inside the practice
Six small skills you'll actually use
These are the pocket-sized practices Even Keel returns to. None take longer than a minute. All meet the nervous system where it is.
Orient
Slowly look around the room. Let your eyes find what is here, now, and safe.
Breath length
A longer exhale than inhale. Three rounds. That's the whole practice.
Feet on floor
Press down through your heels. Notice the floor pressing back. Stay there a moment.
Hand on heart
A small, kind contact — a signal of safety from you, to you.
Sound check
Name three sounds in the room. Bring attention out of the loop and into the present.
Name and stay
"I am activated. I am safe. I am here." Said out loud, even quietly.

How it's held
Slow, trauma-aware, opt-in
Even Keel is built by men who've done their own nervous system work and reviewed with trauma-informed practitioners. You can do the whole pathway privately inside Recovery Hub. Members who want company can join an optional monthly facilitated call to walk the practices together.
This is education and peer practice — not therapy and not a crisis service. If you're in immediate distress, please call 999 or Samaritans on 116 123.
Questions
Honest answers
- Is this therapy?
- No. Even Keel is trauma-aware education and practice in nervous system regulation. It's not therapy and not a crisis service. If you're in immediate distress, please call 999 or Samaritans on 116 123.
- Do I need to know anything about the nervous system already?
- No. We start from the body — what you feel, what happens when something tips you — and build the language together as we go.
- How much time does it take in a week?
- Around 20–30 minutes of guided material, plus a few one-minute practices you can use during your actual day. Small enough to survive a real week.
- Is it available on my phone?
- Yes. The whole pathway lives inside Recovery Hub — usable on phone, tablet or laptop, online, with no app to install.
- What if I miss a week?
- Nothing is lost. The pathway waits for you. There is no streak, no public progress bar, no shaming you back in.
- Can I do this alongside therapy?
- Yes — many men do. Even Keel is designed to sit alongside therapy, coaching, or other support. Bring what you notice into the room that already holds you.
